Anse de Sables Saint Lucia is one of the country’s most unspoilt and longest stretches of beach. Almost two kilometres long, the beach opens out into a reef-enclosed, shallow bay and is one of the most picturesque locations in Saint Lucia. The beach curves slightly into the wind which has made Anse de Sables Saint Lucia a favourite among kiteboarders and windsurfers.
This windward beach has proved extremely popular among windsurfers for years, and The Reef Kite & Surf Centre, one of the Caribbean’s most legendary establishments, was founded here in 1994. The downwind end of Anse de Sables offers the perfect conditions for windsurfers and kiteboarders of all levels. From amateurs to experienced adrenaline-junkies, there is plenty of space for some serious water action. If all of this seems a little too strenuous for the average sun-worshipper, then it is equally enjoyable watching from the comfort of your beach towel, wide-eyed as kiters and windsurfers skip over the water and execute daring flips and somersaults. With the two uninhabited Maria Islands in the distance and surrounded by the verdant Pointe Sable Nature Reserve, Anse de Sables Saint Lucia is one of the most beautiful and serene locations in the Caribbean. From the shore, you can see distant white caps on the ocean which indicate where the coral reef hugs the bay and even in high temperatures, the fresh ocean breeze is soothing on the tanned skins of sun-worshippers on the beach. Anse de Sables Saint Lucia is conveniently located from a number of the island’s most famous attractions. There are several national parks within 10-miles of the beach, including the Edmond Forest Reserve and Quilesse Forest Reserve, although the Maria Islands Nature Reserve, only 1 mile away, is undoubtedly the area’s biggest attraction. In addition, there are plenty of tour operators that can provide transport to the nearby La Soufriere volcano or the imposing twin peaks of the Gros and Petit Pitons, less than 13 miles away from Anse de Sables.
The majority of restaurants and bars located on Anse de Sables Saint Lucia offer simple and humble food, although the nearby street-vendors are an excellent place to experience local specialities. Another option is to bring a picnic lunch, which many hotels are more than happy to arrange for their guests. However, for higher-end culinary delights, visitors only need to venture out to nearby Vieux Fort where there is a variety of restaurants offering local cuisine and international fare. While there are a few small hotels nearby, there are no hotels located on Anse de Sables itself. Those who want to combine luxury accommodation with the lures of soft, white sand, should stay at Vieux Fort or Soufriere. Easily accessible by car – and quite pleasant by foot too – there are a few sleeping options in and around the charming, historic town of Vieux Fort. Coconut Bay Resort & Spa, located in Vieux Fort, is ideal for families and couples seeking a memorable island vacation. However, the majority of higher-end hotels near to Anse de Sables are found 30kms away in Soufriere. Here, guests can choose from a wide selection of luxury hotels, such as the romantic Ladera or the elegant Jalouise Plantation. Conveniently located near to the Hewanorra International Airport and with the island’s two largest towns Soufriere and Vieux Fort in close vicinity, Anse de Sables Saint Lucia is an ideal place for families, couples and singles alike to relax and enjoy the sun or partake in the region’s famed water activities.
