At some point in their lives, most people have dreamt of escaping to a faraway Caribbean island to soak in the sun, walk under the coconut palms, and sip tropically-flavoured cocktails while the gentle breeze brings in the salty scent of the ocean. The island of Saint Lucia, located between Barbados and Martinique, offers its visitors all that and much more. Saint Lucia is blessed with warm weather all-year-round, exuberant vegetation, idyllic white sand beaches and coves, and towering mountains covered in lush greenery. Saint Lucia has become the favourite luxury holiday destination of well-heeled tourists and businesspeople, so the island boasts modern facilities that combine perfectly well with its natural beauty. Rodney Bay is located in the North West of Saint Lucia and is a favourite spot for cruising and sailing. Its marina is often teeming with yachts from every corner of the world. The bay is well communicated with Saint Lucia's airport and with the rest of the island.
Rodney Bay makes for an excellent wedding or honeymoon destination although, when it comes to travelling to paradise, any excuse to visit the island is valid. There is no shortage of high end accommodation in and around the bay, including luxurious villas perched on the nearby mountains, beach hotels, and a choice of conveniently located apartments rented out by the locals. The majority of villas and apartments are located a mere 15 minute walk away from the beach, the marina, and the area where all the shops, restaurants, bars, and banks are located. Those wishing to spend their holiday further inland will also be spoilt for choice. If you wish to spend your Caribbean vacation at a boutique hotel, Rodney Bay is home to the beautifully appointed Ginger Lily hotel. If you must be right by the beach, the British-owned Harmony Suites are an excellent option, as it is only 200 yards from Reduit beach. Dining and wining in Rodney Bay is an exciting and delightful experience. Many local restaurants are managed by top chefs from Europe, Asia, and North America, so there is a wide range of cuisine to be sampled during a stay in the bay. In fact, the variety is so wide-ranging that you could try a different type of cuisine every day: Indian, French, Chinese, British, etc. And of course, there is always the option of sampling the flavourful and original local gastronomy, which is a refreshing combination of French and British cuisine. Traditional dishes feature ingredients like papayas, mangoes, coconuts, curry spice, cinnamon, and seafood. The resulting combinations are a delectable treat to the palate.
The main beach in Rodney Bay is Reduit beach, a long white sand strip that stretches for a couple of kilometres until it merges with the nearby coves. The principal activities here revolve around the concept of relaxation. Tourists are invited to swim in the azure waters of the Caribbean, sunbathe in a comfortable beach lounger or to enjoy a cocktail of freshly caught seafood, spiced up with the local culinary touch. Or simply enjoy a stroll around the promenade for a leisurely early morning (or late evening) walk. Those wishing to increase their adrenaline are catered for Rodney Bay with activities such as windsurfing and sailing, deep sea fishing, scuba diving, whale watching, mountain biking, horseback riding, golfing, and kayaking, just to mention a few.
