A holiday in Saint Lucia gives you so much more than what you would expect from a small island in the Caribbean. Measuring 27 miles wide and 14 miles wide Saint Lucia is home to stunning vistas, clear beaches and a local vibrating culture and ambience.
Situated between the North Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean, this surprisingly beautiful island offers you a holiday that can leave you yearning for another visit sometime soon. Flying to Saint Lucia, you will see verdant greens and crystal clear waters, and you will realise that there are few places that can match this delightful oasis in the sea.
The best way to travel to Saint Lucia is by air. Flying into Saint Lucia can be done through one of its two main airports – Hewanorra International Airport located at Vieux Fort, the island’s southernmost tip; and at George FL Charles Airport at Castries, which is near the tourist area. Both airports cater to international flights however, most airlines land at Hewanorra Airport due to its longer runway.
Both these airports are equipped with all the standard facilities offered at international airports. Duty-free shopping, tourist information booths, taxi stands, phone booths, etc. are all available here. You can also exchange US dollars for EC currency at the airports.
Saint Lucia has become hugely popular as a honeymoon destination in the recent past. It has frequently been voted in as the best honeymoon destination, but as you are flying to Saint Lucia and once you drive around it, it becomes clear that it offers an unmatched luxurious holiday. There are many resorts that offer you the ultimate in luxury and style. Just spend a few days relaxing here, and you will soon forget the hustle and bustle of your daily life.
If you would like to indulge in adventure sports, then go scuba diving off the beaches of Castries or go snorkelling along the coral reef beds. Go sailing in the stunningly blue waters of the seas around Saint Lucia. You can spend a day visiting the Pitons – Gros Piton and Petite Piton, the two stunning cone-shaped peaks near Soufriere, both of them have been designated as World Heritage Sights by UNESCO.
Air travel is one of the ways to get to Saint Lucia, but you can also come here on one of the many cruise ships that dock at the Castries port. However, we would recommend that in order to get the true flavour of this vibrant Caribbean island, you should stay here for a longer time.
Most hotels and resorts here are extremely family-oriented, and with your children, you can have a memorable holiday here. Take them snorkelling or for a trek to the mountains, take them for a horse ride, or turtle watching at Anse Cochon. Your children will love the fact that Pigeon Island was once the hideout for pirate ships.
If you are visiting the island to tie the knot, you can take advantage of the island’s same day marriage policy. You can marry in splendid surroundings followed by a honeymoon at a resort carved into the mountainside. Take a drive-in excursion into a volcano, or cool off at one of the waterfalls in this region. One can expect romance and splendour to be laid out on a platter once they have decided on flying to Saint Lucia.
